5-4a Deliberate Design
Students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions.
Deliberate Design Process: a series of steps used to solve a problem and design a solution.
Innovative Artifacts: Artifacts created by new methods, original thinking or improvements to an existing artifact. Examples- 3D printing, computer programs, robotics, simulations, virtual representations, prototypes, etc.
Authentic Problems: Real world problems, for example, design challenges, science explorations, philosophical questions, service learning projects, social issues (recycling, composting, pollution, hunger, poverty)

Check with your learning partners to see if they need help.
1. Help give meaning to taking steps to solve a problem and design a solution in a way that makes sense to your learning partners.
2. Get ideas from others for taking steps to solve a problem and design a solution.
You will be successful if....
1. You seek understanding from others for taking steps to solve a problem and design a solution.
"Be a friend to yourself; do all you can to be wise. Try hard to understand, and you will be rewarded."
2. You can describe the meaning of taking steps to solve a problem and design a solution to someone who needs help from you.
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom."
To earn Kid's Choice,
1. Rephrase the learning target in your own words to a learning partner.
2. Explain to a learning partner why today's learning target is important.
