SMART Goal
California elementary schools that outperformed schools with similar student populations assigned a high priority to student achievement, set measurable goals for improved student achievement, and had a well-defined plan to improve achievement (Williams et al., 2006).
School Improvement Plan Goal
Teach students to know and understand their Scholastic Reading Inventory data (SRI).
Teacher's SMART Goal
By the end of 3rd quarter, 80% of 3rd grade students will score at least 113 lexiles higher on the SRI as compared to their 1st quarter score.

Goal Achievement Plan
How:
1. Learn the components of the SRI to effectively guide students to better understand their reading abilities.
2. Use Tumble books to guide student in making selections based on their Lexile.
a. Use animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format that increases their level of engagement.
b. Students will understand how assistive technologies can benefit all individuals with reading (METS 3-5.TC.3).
3. Use the Lexile Level chart to help students locate their SRI score in order to help them own their data and set personal goals.
4. Use SRI login / score sheet to help students keeptrack of their scores and choose appropriate books to read.
a. Students will search for electronic books that match their SRI Lexile reading level as they demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual environments (METS PK-2.TC.7).
5. Use the Voyager Elementary Technology website to help communicate the purpose of SRI.
6. Use the SRI to monitor student progress.
7. Provide intervantion for students not making adequate progress.
Measurement: Student achievement is determined when 80% of the 3rd grade students have a 4th quarter lexile score that is at least 113 points higher than their first quarter SRI score.
